State-of-the-art manufacturing facility has scope for further expansion!
Bosch, the leading supplier of technology and services, inaugurated its 14th manufacturing facility in India. The new plant is located at Bidadi, Bengaluru in the state of Karnataka and will manufacture products for the Diesel Systems division. It will be part of Bosch Limited, the flagship company of Bosch in India. Since the ground breaking in September 2013, around INR 3,400 million/ 340 crores (around 45 million euros) have been invested in the new plant at Bidadi, which has a built up area of around 38,000 square meters. This investment underlines the importance of India for the Bosch Group. “India is a key pillar of our growth strategy in Asia Pacific. A strong local presence is the basis for further growth in the region”, said Mr. Peter Tyroller, the member of the board of management of the Bosch Group responsible for Asia Pacific. “Bosch is on track to double sales in Asia Pacific by 2020,” said Tyroller, referring to the target the company had set itself in 2014.
The plant inauguration took place in the presence of Shri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri R. V. Deshpande, Minister for Industries, Govt. of Karnataka, Smt. Ratnaprabha, Additional Chief Secretary – Department of Industries, Govt. of Karnataka, Mr. Peter Tyroller, Member Board of Management, Robert Bosch GmbH and Dr. Steffen Berns, President Bosch Group India and Managing Director, Bosch Limited.
The construction of the Bidadi plant spans over two phases, with the second phase scheduled to be completed by 2018. The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bidadi will produce Diesel products that were previously manufactured at the Adugodi plant, and would have over 2,600 associates working at the facility. Like the previous location, the new plant in Bidadi will continue to be the lead plant for the production of singe cylinder common rail pumps along with conventional fuel injection pumps. In 2015, Bosch has started the production of the common-rail fuel injection system pump in Bidadi, and by 2016-17 the production of newer version of common rail fuel injection pump is expected. “The developing industrial area in Bidadi will offer larger space and better infrastructure support for our future expansion. This will help us cater to the growing business needs of the Indian market in the long term. We see a lot of growth potential in India and strive to bring more projects, products and manufacturing to the country also in the future, “ said Dr. Steffen Berns, president of Bosch in India and managing director of Bosch Limited. “Our growth in India is closely interwoven with the relationship we share with the State of Karnataka and we look forward to enriching this partnership,” he added.
In its new plant Bosch will apply Industry 4.0, connected industry, to optimize manufacturing processes. Thanks to data analytics and data mining projects, it is possible to prevent disruptions to the process and thus gain additional production hours. A layout with lean line design and flow orientation will improve the maintenance of machines. Furthermore, the plant has brought in new standards to handle parts and material movement.
With regard to connected industry, Bosch is a leading global provider and exponent of connected industry solutions. The company offers a broad range of solutions such as drives, automation solutions, sensors, software, and predictive maintenance. “We believe that the use of intelligent and connected solutions in manufacturing will play an increasing role in India. Bosch is very well positioned for this,” said Berns.
